Stratotimer 3ATI Advanced Multifunction Aircraft Chronograph

Digital Aircraft Clock - Onboard Time Management System

The STRATOTIMER™ 3ATI Advanced Multifunction Aircraft Chronograph is a feature-rich cockpit timepiece. It has a state-of-the-art, high-resolution TFT multifunction display featuring sunlight readability from every viewing angle and the largest useable screen area available on the market today for a cockpit clock and combining three digital clocks with a sweep second hand. The display can be dimmed manually or set to use ambient light, and night vision system compatibility ( NVIS Green A ) is an available option.

A single user-friendly knob sets the desired time or date, with advanced setting options like selectable color schemes available from a menu. THOMMEN can fit here with your visual color cockpit philosophy. The STRATOTIMER™ can be synchronized with GPS via its ARINC 429 interface, and the 3ATI version accepts S-video input for displaying airborne camera imagery. The video display includes options for pilots to view door and hatch positions, cargo bay and other camera equipped areas of the aircraft.

STRATOTIMER™ provides the clock and video capability in the same instrument reducing weight, cost and space in the cockpit. The ARINC 429 communication connection allows for accurate automated time logging optimising aircraft operation time and maximizing component life.

The STRATOTIMER™ 3ATI Advanced Multifunction Aircraft Chronograph can replace old devices such as the ADS Transicoil/Astrotech LC-90/LC-90SR clocks etc. without major change to the cockpit instrument panel or the aircraft electrical installation or for example the Air Precision/Cobham, installed on a large quantity of air transport aircraft providing greater functionality and reduced obsolescence.

It exceeds DO-160G test results and complies with DO-254 Dal-D, DO-178C DAL-D and provides better maintainability, improved user experience and enhanced accuracy.

On-board time management functions are accessed by the straightforward user interface.

  • S-Video input
  • GPS synchronization
  • Digital TFT display
  • Best-in-class sunlight readability
  • Digital time, sweep second hand
  • Ambient light or manual dimming
  • Programmable alarms
  • Master / Slave synchronization
  • NVIS compatible

* The STRATOTIMER synchronizes with GPS: GPS satellites (and now other global navigation systems commonly referred to as GNSS) include three or four atomic clocks that are monitored and controlled to be highly synchronized and traceable to national and international standards (known as UTC). So for time synchronization, the GPS signal is received, processed by a local master clock, time server, or primary reference, and passed on to “slaves” and other devices, systems, or networks so their “local clocks” are likewise synchronized to UTC.

Typical accuracies range from better than 1 microsecond to a few milliseconds depending on the synchronization protocol. It is the process of synchronization to GPS that can provide atomic clock accuracy without the need for a local atomic clock. Still, local atomic clocks are sometimes desired as a long-term back-up solution to loss-of-GPS, either in the case or a weather-related outage, GPS interference, or other scenarios.

In any case, GPS clock synchronization eliminates the need for manual clock setting (an error-prone process) to establish traceability to national and international standards so various events can be correlated even when they are time-stamped by different clocks. The benefits are numerous and include: legally validated time stamps, regulatory compliance, secure networking, and operational efficiency.
